Best Home Bakery Software (2026): 6 Apps Compared Honestly

Illustration of six numbered app cards arranged around a laptop showing a bakery dashboard, with a mixing bowl, a checklist notebook and a cupcake, representing a comparison of home bakery apps

You’ve got orders in Instagram DMs, a costing spreadsheet you stopped updating in March, and a sticky note on the fridge that says “Saturday: 3 cakes?” You know you need an app. Then you search for the best home bakery software and get ten roundups that all seem to list different tools.

Here’s the comparison we’d want if we were choosing today. We looked at six apps home bakers actually use: Stirva, BakeProfit, BatterSuite, Bakesy, Hotplate and Cottage CMS. We checked each one’s own pricing page and compared what you pay, what each order costs you in fees, and what each app actually does.

Yes, Stirva is our product. That’s why we’ve kept to facts you can check, and why this post says plainly where another app is the better pick.

The short version

  • Best for knowing your real costs and profit: Stirva. Recipe costing that updates itself from your expenses, plus a profit dashboard and an AI assistant.

  • Cheapest way to start costing: BakeProfit. It has a free plan, and Pro is $69/year.

  • Best polished mobile app for custom orders and invoices: Bakesy. It’s rated 4.9 from 7.1K App Store ratings.

  • Best for weekly drops and preorder pickups: Hotplate. There’s no subscription, but you pay a fee on every order.

  • Best for a full cottage food website with card checkout: Cottage CMS. It has a free plan with Square checkout, recipes and bake planning.

  • Best for custom cake quotes and email marketing: BatterSuite.

What it really costs: a baker taking 20 orders a month

Subscription prices are easy to compare. Per-order fees are where the real differences hide, so here’s one worked example.

The assumptions: 20 orders a month at an average of $50 each. That’s 240 orders and $12,000 in sales a year. All card fees are worked out on the $50 order, before tips and tax.

App

What you’d pay in a year

How we got there

Stirva

$129

Yearly plan. No per-order fee. Payment apps you use may charge their own fees; cash costs nothing.

BakeProfit

$69

20 orders a month is over the free plan’s 15, so you’d need Pro yearly. Card fees aren’t listed.

BatterSuite

$119.88

Niche at $9.99 × 12. Pro Annual is $159.99. Card fees aren’t listed.

Bakesy

$119.88 to $659.88

Standard at $9.99 × 12. If every order is paid by card through Bakesy Secure Payments, add $2.25 per order (3.9% of $50 + $0.30) × 240 = $540.

Hotplate

$420, or $1,152 if you cover the platform fee

Card processing is $1.75 per order (2.9% of $50 + $0.30) × 240 = $420. Customers pay the $3.05 platform fee (5% of $50 + $0.55) by default, an extra $732 a year in total. Absorb it yourself and the total is $1,152.

Cottage CMS

$0 to $200, plus Square card fees

Free plan, or Pro at $200/year to remove the Cottage CMS service fee. Square’s processing applies to every card order.

The pattern to notice: subscription apps cost the same whether you sell 10 orders or 100. Fee-based apps like Hotplate cost nothing in a slow month, but the fees grow with every order. At 20 orders a month, Hotplate’s card processing alone is more than three times Stirva’s yearly price.

The cheapest app on paper isn’t always the cheapest in your kitchen. Run your own numbers with your real order count.

When another app is the better pick

We’d rather you pick the right tool than the wrong one from us.

Choose Hotplate if you sell in weekly drops: a menu opens Tuesday, sells out by Thursday, and everyone picks up Saturday. Its timed preorder windows, real-time sold-out limits and text alerts are built for exactly that. You pay per order instead of monthly.

Choose Cottage CMS if you want a full website with built-in card checkout, delivery or shipping options, and printed labels. You can start on a free plan that already includes recipes and bake planning.

Choose Bakesy if your business is mostly custom orders and you want a polished phone app for order forms, branded invoices and push notifications. It has thousands of App Store ratings behind it.

Choose BakeProfit if you want costing for free, or for $69 a year, and you’re fine with its free-plan limits of 10 recipes and 15 orders a month.

Choose BatterSuite if you quote a lot of custom cakes and want email marketing in the same app.

Where Stirva fits

Every app above can store a recipe cost. The harder problem is keeping it right. Butter goes up, you change flour brands, and the cost you worked out in spring is wrong by summer. Most bakers never go back and update it.

That’s the part Stirva is built around:

  • Expense syncing: record what you paid for ingredients, packaging and subscriptions, and Stirva updates every recipe that uses those ingredients.

  • A profit dashboard: see sales, expenses by category, profit or loss, and unpaid orders in one place.

  • A storefront without transaction fees: customers send order requests, you accept or decline them, and you take payment however suits you and your customer. That means Venmo, Zelle, cash or anything else.

  • An AI assistant for substitutions, recipe ideas, and pricing or customer questions.

What Stirva doesn’t do: it doesn’t process card payments at checkout, so if you want customers to pay by card inside your shop, Hotplate, Cottage CMS, BakeProfit or Bakesy can do that. It also doesn’t have a free-forever plan. It has a 30-day free trial instead.

If you want to see the costing side first, our step-by-step recipe cost walkthrough shows the math any of these tools should be doing for you. Where these numbers come from

Prices and features were checked on October 11, 2026, on each company’s own website: Stirva pricing, BakeProfit pricing, BatterSuite, Bakesy pricing, Bakesy payments guide, Hotplate pricing and Cottage CMS pricing. If something has changed, let us know and we’ll update it.

FAQ

What is the best app for a home bakery?

It depends on how you sell. For drops and preorder pickups, Hotplate. For a full website with card checkout, Cottage CMS. For custom orders and invoices on your phone, Bakesy. For knowing your real recipe costs and profit as prices change, Stirva.

Is there free home bakery software?

Yes. BakeProfit and Cottage CMS both have free plans, and Hotplate has no subscription, though it charges fees on each order. Stirva, Bakesy and BatterSuite offer free trials (30, 30 and 7 days).

Which bakery apps charge a fee on every order?

Hotplate charges a 5% + $0.55 platform fee plus 2.9% + $0.30 card processing. Bakesy charges 3.9% + $0.30 when customers pay by card through Bakesy Secure Payments. Cottage CMS card orders go through Square’s processing, and its Free plan may add a small service fee. Stirva charges no per-order fee because it doesn’t process payments.

Do I need recipe costing software if I already use an order app?

Most order and storefront apps don’t calculate what each recipe costs you, or keep that cost current when ingredient prices change. If you price by feel or by copying other bakers, a costing tool is usually what’s missing.
